First American Inventor
The first American inventor of the typewriter was William Burt. In 1829 he applied for a patent on the typewriter he called the typographer. However, he could not find any manufactures willing to produce it so he abandoned the typographer and went on to pursue other inventions.
Alfred Ely Beach
Alfred Ely Beach made an early sort of typewriter in 1847, but instead of pursuing in developing it, he ignored it
for other things. The typewriter had many things that typewriters today have, but it had problems with inking the letters. This typewriter was not a success but rather a toy for this man.

Christopher Sholes
Christopher Sholes was an American mechanical engineer whom invented the first practical typewriter in 1866. After 5 years of hard experiments, Sholes and his team invented a typewriter very similar to ones produced today. Sholes also invented the keyboard structure that is similar to the one we still use today.
